Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (June 22, 2009) – Hartford, South
Dakota's I-90 Speedway is the chosen battle site for this Friday
night's American Sprint Car Series Regional rumble pitting the
Midwest forces versus the Northern Plains contenders.
Friday's card also serves as an ideal tune-up for the upcoming Lucas
Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt Series presented by K&N Filters event,
which follows just 15 days later atop the 3/8-mile I-90 Speedway
dirt oval on Saturday night, July 11.
With the initial handful of ASCS Midwest events in the 2009 books,
Missouri's Brian Brown holds a slim 10-point lead over Nebraska's
Don Droud, Jr., with Jonathan Cornell, Chad Humston and Jason Danley
rounding out the current top five.
Billy Alley holds a two-point edge over Cornell in ASCS Northern
Plains points, with the balance of the top five including Wade
Nygaard, Brown and Lou Kennedy, Jr.
Saturday's card marks the third leg of six in the ASCS Midwest vs.
Northern Plains Challenge Series. Alley and Cornell split victory
honors at I-80 Speedway in the initial two rounds in April.
The
ASCS Midwest Region has featured five different winners in as many
2009 events, with Alley, Cornell, Shane Stewart, Humston and Jesse
Hockett each posting wins.
Jake Peters and Jack Dover topped last year's ASCS Regional action
at I-90 Speedway.
Hot laps are set
for 7:15 p.m. on Friday with racing action to get under way at 8:00
p.m.
I-90 Speedway is
located three miles west of Hartford, SD, on SR 38. For more
information, contact the track at 605-528-6380.
The ASCS Midwest
Region is slated for 13 nights of competition at a half dozen tracks
throughout Nebraska and the surrounding areas of Missouri and South
Dakota. The ASCS Northern Plains Region takes on the Midwest in six
of those events.
The American Sprint Car Series, in its 18th year
of sanctioning Sprint Car racing events, brings the best of Sprint
Car racing to nearly 100 different tracks throughout 25 states and
Canada in 2009. Anchored by the Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car Dirt
Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of a dozen
different Regions throughout the nation.
