Wyoming Weekend on Tap for ASCS

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (August 18, 2008) – Action continues for the American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region as the series soars into Big Sky country with a pair of events in Wyoming this weekend.

 

On Friday night, the ASCS Rocky Mountain Region returns to the semi-banked, ½-mile Casper Speedway clay oval for the first time in five years.  Then on Saturday night, it's off to the high-banked, 3/8-mile Sweetwater Speedway clay oval in Rock Springs.

 

Seventeen-year-old Albuquerque, NM, shoe Derrik Ortega leads the way into the Wyoming double with a 24-point advantage over Colorado's Chad Corken in the series championship points race with a half dozen events remaining.

 

Ortega and the 19-year-old Corken are two of five teen-aged drivers among the top ten in ASCS Rocky Mountain Region points, with others including fifth-ranked Jake Ossenfort (16 years old), sixth-ranked Colt Treharn (18 years old) and sevent-ranked Danielle Ossenfort (19 years old).

 

Mixed in among the young guns in the top ten are Montana's Jeremy McCune (third), 55-year-old Colorado shoe Bob Schaeffer (fourth), Colorado's Justin Wolf Meldock (eighth), Utah's Dustin Hall (ninth) and Montana's Michelle Dodge (tenth).

 

Friday's card at Casper Speedway goes green at 7:00 p.m., with Saturday's action at Sweetwater Speedway firing off at 7:30 p.m.

The eighth year of action for the American Sprint Car Series Rocky Mountain Region is slated to consist of 16 events at seven tracks throughout Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, South Dakota and Nebraska in 2008.

The nation's most prominent Sprint Car sanctioning body with a dozen different Regions throughout the United States in addition to the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour National series, the American Sprint Car Series' (ASCS) 17^th year of activity will include approximately 250 nights of racing at more than 100 different race tracks throughout 28 different states and Canada.
