Mann Wins ASCS Sprints on Dirt
King of Michigan Event at
Hartford
T.J.
Buffenbarger, HARTFORD,
Mich. (September 5, 2008) Brett Mann continued his strong
finish to the season on Friday night by winning the Engine Pro
ASCS Sprints on Dirt presented by Victor Reinz King of Michigan
feature event at Hartford Motor Speedway. |
Mann inherited the lead when Steve Irwin went pit side under
caution with a flat right rear tire and pulled away during
several restarts to capture the victory and extend his point
lead in the season long standings in the Rowlee and Frohlich
owned Campbell powered Maxim chassis.
This is a race Ive wanted to win for a long time, and we
finally got it, exclaimed Mann in victory lane. I have to
thank my car owners Bill Rowlee and Herb Frochlich and my
brother in law for busting his butt on this race car.
Irwin and Joe Bares started on the front row for the King of
Michigan main event. Irwin pulled into the early lead. Then on
lap four defending King of Michigan winner Dustin Daggett
slammed into the wall in turn four to bring out the caution
flag. At the same time former King of Michigan winner Tim
Allison slowed with a broken rocker arm. Both drivers retired
from the event.

Under caution Irwin developed a flat tire and relinquished the
lead to change it in the pit area. Quick work by his crew got
Irwin back on the track before the restart.
From there Mann, Bares, and Blair pulled away from the rest of
the field through several restarts. Then with four laps to go
Bares front wing blew off as the caution flag flew for debris on
the track. Even without the front wing Bares held onto second,
but it was all Mann up front taking the feature win over Bares,
Blair, Tim Norman, and Irwin from the back of the field to round
out the top five.
Tim Champlin had a rear end explode in hot laps going down the
backstretch and tipped over. Then in the Lane Automotive/Comp
Cams heat race #2 Darren Long and Mark Grabill made contact off
the second corner with Long rolling over several times. Both
drivers emerged from their cars uninjured.
