Sooner Late Models along with Championship Chase Action Saturday at DCRP!

 

Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 12, 2019) – It’s the only chance of 2019 to catch Late Model racing action atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval in southwest Kansas.

 

Kip Hughes leads the Sooner Late Model Series into Dodge City for the first time on Saturday night.  It will mark the lone appearance for Late Models at the state-of-the art oval in 2019 and the first such appearance in several years.

 

While the Sooner Late Models take center stage, championship chase action for the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks round out the Saturday night card that fires off at 7:30 p.m.

 

A look at the current championship chase status for each class after the recent Mid-Season Championships is as follows…

 

Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars:

 

The Sprint Car shoes have a night off before returning to action next Saturday, July 20.  But with just four rounds of championship chase action remaining, Luke Cranston holds a 73-point edge over defending champ Steven Richardson while Jeremy Huish sits third after collecting his first career win on Mid-Season Championships night.

Larned’s William Nusser has gained an advantage with five of ten events in the books, but it’s an extremely slight one at just nine points over Trent Gray with Jesse Smith just two more points back in third.  All indications are that the Modified points battle is going down to the wire.

IMCA Sport Modifieds:

 

After getting his first DCRP win in nearly a year on June 15, a run-in with the turn three wall left Jeff Kaup with damage last time out.  The multi-time track champion still holds the edge through six nights of competition by just 17 points over Brian May with Bart Baker another 17 points back in third.  Dakota Sproul leads in the win column with three triumphs but missing a pair of events has dropped him to sixth in points.

Angel Munoz is just nine points short of perfection with a third-place finish in the May 4 Stock Car Shootout the only blemish on his 2019 DCRP record that includes five wins in six starts.  His dominance has led to an 80 point advantage over Chris Oliver.

Tathan Burkhart and Reagan Sellard have combined to win five of six, but it’s Sellard that looks to be on his way to a third consecutive track title with a 93 point lead over Brian Thomas.

Tickets to Saturday’s Sooner Late Model Series special event are just $15 with children 11 and under admitted for free.
