Sport Modified Mayhem adds to Big Weekend of Racing at DCRP!

Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (August 17, 2020) – This upcoming weekend will be about more than Sprint Cars as the IMCA Sport Modifieds gear up for the Seventh Annual Sport Modified Mayhem North vs. South Duel.

The Sport Modified Mayhem North vs. South Duel offers up a $1,500 winner’s share in Saturday night’s finale with $150 to start the main event.

Robert Elliott reigns as the defending Mayhem champion, taking command at the midway point of last year’s event and then holding off Dakota Sproul and Blaine Walt over the closing rounds to take the win.

The Clinton, OK, racer joined the ranks of past Mayhem champions that includes Mike Roach, Dustin Daniels, Kaleb Roach and Clay Money.  Only Mike Roach has been able to repeat with wins in both 2015 and 2018.

On the Mason-Dixon line of the Sport Modified world, DCRP pits the North vs. South Sport Modifieds on a regular basis and consistently offers up among the most competitive and unpredictable racing action atop the 3/8-mile clay oval.

Case in point, this year’s championship chase action has offered up six different feature winners in as many events.  Monty Nordyke is the latest to add his name to the list, joining other 2020 winners at Dodge City Raceway Park including Kaleb Roach, Matt Rucker, Brett Berry, Luke Stallbaumer and Brandon Kenny.

Mike Lunow took advantage of Saturday night misfortune for both Kamren Gruber and Luke Stallbaumer to sneak out to a 27-point lead in the track’s title chase.  Only one points race, the Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event on September 19, remains for the IMCA Sport Modifieds following this weekend’s action that contributes to track points as well as IMCA points.
