McIntosh Ready for POWRi West Double after Top Ten Finish in Illinois Speedweek Points

Lonnie Wheatley, BIXBY, Okla. (June 14, 2018) – Cannon McIntosh made the most of his first full run at the POWRi Midget Illinois Speedweek by racing into each feature event aboard the RL Hudson/Toyota-TRD No. 08 Midget over the course of the week and finishing out the mini-series among the top ten in final points.

With Illinois Speedweek in the books, the 15-year-old turns his attention back to the POWRi West Midget League for a pair of Sooner Series events this weekend at Meeker’s Red Dirt Raceway on Friday night and Oklahoma City’s I-44 Riverside Speedway on Saturday night.

“We were pretty consistent all week and the car was really working well,” McIntosh said of the Illinois week that was abbreviated to three nights after the final two nights were washed out.  “Now we have two tracks that we feel pretty good about this weekend, hopefully we can go out and get a win.”

Last week’s adventures began on Wednesday night at Belle-Clair Speedway in Bellville, IL, and McIntosh didn’t let a big draw number set him back as he rallied from eighth to finish second in his heat race to earn the third starting position in the feature.

“We were able to pass some good cars, our car was really good rolling the bottom,” McIntosh recalls.

The feature brought a different story, as rough track conditions limited McIntosh to a 13th-place finish.

“The track was really rough, the car would bounce getting into the corners and the frame would hit the track,” McIntosh explains.

Action shifted to Fayette County Speedway in Brownstown, IL, and McIntosh sailed to a heat race win from the pole position to garner the seventh starting position for the main event in which he would ultimately cross the stripe in 12th after battling among the top eight much of the way.

“The cushion was on the fence at Brownstown,” McIntosh says.  “We ran in the top seven the first half of the race, then I missed my entry on a restart and a few guys got me there.  We had an open red and the nerf bar was on the right rear, so that wasn’t helping any.”

Next up was Jacksonville Speedway on Friday night, where McIntosh finished out the night in 16th after a fifth-place heat race run.

“The track was on top in the heats,” McIntosh says.  “We thought the track would stay good for a while in the feature but it went away in two laps and we were kinda stuck.  I got caught up in two cautions and that ended our night.”

The balance of the week was cut short with Saturday’s go at Macon Speedway and Sunday’s event at Lincoln Speedway both falling victim to rain.

McIntosh’s consistency throughout the week was enough to net a ninth-place finish in Illinois Speedweek points.

This week, McIntosh takes a ranking of second in POWRi West Midget League points into events at Red Dirt Raceway and I-44 Riverside Speedway.

McIntosh has displayed plenty of speed at both venues, bouncing back from an early incident to claim eighth in an earlier Meeker outing and then rallying from 19th to capture fourth in the series last Oklahoma City outing.

McIntosh looks to break into victory lane for the first time of 2018 this weekend.
