McIntosh Snake Bitten over POWRi West Sooner Series Weekend

Lonnie Wheatley, BIXBY, Okla. (June 21, 2018) – Cannon McIntosh put himself in good position for success in both of last weekend’s POWRi West Midget League events at Meeker’s Red Dirt Raceway and Oklahoma City’s I-44 Riverside Speedway.

But, Lady Luck was not on the side of the 15-year-old in either feature event with incidents on both nights resulting in DNF’s on the weekend.

On both nights, McIntosh raced from third to capture heat race wins aboard the RL Hudson/Toyota-TRD No. 08 Midget.  And, on both nights, he gridded the feature field inside the second row as he vied for his first feature win of the year.

However, the Friday night feature essentially ended before it began for McIntosh.

“Another car slid up in the first corner,” McIntosh explains.  “I thought we were going to be okay and race side-by-side coming off of two.  But he kept sliding up and got his right rear over my left front.  It turned us over and it got my axle, so we were done.”

Saturday’s feature at I-44 Riverside Speedway seemed promising much of the way.

“I was taking it pretty slow for a while.  We were just starting to get going, it was time to start racing harder,” McIntosh says.  “Then a car jumped the cushion just ahead of me.  He came down and my right rear climbed his left rear.  It pushed the nerf bar into the right rear and we weren’t able to get that fixed.”

Despite the misfortune over the weekend, McIntosh still holds down third in POWRi West Midget League points despite missing an event earlier in the year.

“We have the heat races down, now we just have to finish the night up,” McIntosh concludes.

McIntosh’s next outing is yet to be determined.
