McIntosh Ready for POWRi Ironman Weekend after Posting First Win of the Year
Lonnie Wheatley, BIXBY, Okla. (August 2, 2018) – A win had been in the making for some time. Cannon McIntosh made it happen last Saturday night by parking the RL Hudson/Toyota-TRD No. 08 Midget in POWRi West Midget League victory lane at Oklahoma City’s 1/5-mile I-44 Riverside Speedway.
After adding his first win of the 2018 campaign to his first career Midget triumph as a 14-year-old last year, the Bixby, OK, based team now travel northeast this weekend to take in the POWRi National vs. POWRi West Midget League double at Pevely, Missouri’s Federated Auto Parts I-55 Raceway on Friday and Saturday.
It won’t be the young gun’s first visit to the Pevely oval, though his laps were limited to just warmups last time out on April 28 after fueling issues kept the team pitside the rest of the night after turning the night’s second-quickest time in hot laps.
“We got around there really well, so I’m looking forward to getting back there and being able to race both nights,” McIntosh says. “Hopefully it’s a good weekend for us.”
McIntosh carries some momentum to Pevely this time around as well after dominating last Saturday night’s POWRi West Midget league card in Oklahoma City.
After racing from the tail of the field to win his heat race and earning the night’s High Point Driver honors, McIntosh shot into the lead at the drop of the green flag in the feaure and led all 25 laps in commanding fashion to get that much sought-after first win of the season.
“We didn’t really change much,” the 15-year-old said of the car that he raced to victory lane. “We have figured out a few things over the last few weekends and it all came together.”
McIntosh will try to keep that momentum rolling with the POWRi Midgets in Pevely, MO, this weekend.
