Sunshine Posts Pair of Turkey Night Top Fives – Gateway Dirt Nationals this Weekend
Lonnie Wheatley, INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (November 29, 2018) – After adding another pair of top-five finishes to the ledger at last week’s Turkey Night event at Ventura, Tyler Courtney vies for the $10,000 winner’s share at the Gateway Dirt Nationals at The Dome at America’s Center in St. Louis.
Following an open practice session on Thursday, Courtney takes the wheel of the Clauson-Marshall-Newman Racing Priority Aviation No. 7bc entry for a full slate of Friday action and then Saturday’s championship feature events.
Courtney will be looking to add to his season total of 14 wins after posting finishes of second and fifth last Thursday at Ventura Raceway.
Turkey Night festivities began on Wednesday night with Courtney driving the Steve Watt No. 81 USAC West Coast Sprint Car to a third-place finish in heat race action and then a qualifying race win before finishing out the night ninth in the Dash to earn a fifth-row starting position.
After timing eighth-quick among the 61-car USAC Midget field to secure a fourth-row starting position in the 98-lap 78th running of the “Turkey Night Grand Prix”, “Sunshine” went to work in the Sprint Car feature.
Starting ninth, Courtney wasted little time working his towards the front and found himself in the lead mix throughout before settling for runner-up honors at the stripe.
Finishing out the 2018 USAC Midget campaign, Courtney worked his way up from eighth to round out the top five with his 47th overall top five run of the season.
Courtney will be looking for at least one more win and a $10,000 winner’s share this weekend in St. Louis.
