Dunn Bests
USRA American Racer Modified Series at Devil’s Bowl
Speedway
MESQUITE, Texas (June 18)
—
A
multi-time USRA Modified track champion at the Devil’s
Bowl Speedway, Clyde Dunn Jr. paired his hometown
advantage with nearly two decades of experience to top
Saturday’s main event for the USRA American Racer
Modified Series presented by Day Motor Sports.
The 38-year old from Rockwall, Texas, snagged the lead
from multi-time USRA series champ Triston Dycus halfway
through the 25-lapper and led the rest of the way to
collect the $2,000 top prize.
Speaking of
hometown advantage, Chris Henigan roared from tenth on
the starting grid to claim the runner-up spot at the
checkered flag. Through five events, Henigan has three
wins including two at his hometown Ark-La-Tex Speedway
to go with a third-place finish and now, a second-place
effort.
But despite leading the ARMS points
battle, Henigan’s lead is vulnerable as Joe Duvall
continued his string of to-five finishes with a
third-place results on Saturday.
He’s just 39
points behind Henigan entering a month-long hiatus for
the series while Dycus, who held on to finish fourth, is
just an additional 37 makers back.
Coming from
the 11th starting spot, Jason Sartain was the fifth
driver to cross the finish line. Wendall Bolden, Troy
Taylor, Jack Sartain, Wayne Melton and Kenny Gaddis, who
started 23rd, completed the top 10.
Gaddis is
fifth in the series standings with 379 points, followed
by Manuel Williams II (361), Tommy Cannon (348), Sean
Gaddis (341), Chris Dawson (327), Sartain (298) and
Jeremy LaCoe (284).
At season’s end, the ARMS
points champion will pocket at least $4,000.
American Racer doled out a $100 cash award to Dycus,
LaCoe and A.J. Vasquez in a random draw during the
driver’s meeting for competitors who pre-entered for
Saturday’s show.
Drivers, don’t forget that those
who pre-enter for this and any ARMS race in 2022 save on
the cost of the entry fee and pre-entries are eligible
for one of three $100 cash drawings at the pit meeting
those nights. Get entered now at
myracepass.com.
Of special note, those in
attendance—drivers, crew members, officials, sponsors
and fans—donated funds of $6,335 in total for Natalie
Buckmeyer.
The USRA American Racer Modified
Series presented by Day Motor Sports returns to action
on Friday and Saturday, July 22-23, for a doubleheader
at two popular bullrings in the Sooner State.
